Hearty Bacon Sandwich with Home Made Irish Brown Bread

The options are endless when it comes to toppings for a classic Irish Brown Bread Sambo! This is a tasty way of using up boiled bacon or ham from yesterday’s dinner, or if you fancy frying up some rashers. Serve with your favorite cuppa’ tea from our Tea Cupboard

Ingredients:

Odlums 5 Grain Bread Mix
300 ml water
2lb loaf tin, well greased
Toppings:
Irish Butter
Chef Brown Sauce
Ballymaloe Relish
Lakeshore Wholegrain Mustard with Whiskey
Heinz Ploughmans Pickle
Heinz Piccalilli Relish
Abbey Farm Hot Red Pepper Relish
Donnelly Rashers
Winston Irish Style Bacon
Donnelly Boiling Bacon
Butchers Cut Cured Ham
Irish Cheddar

Method:

1. Preheat over to 400F
2. Empty contents of Odlums 5 Grain Bread Mix into a mixing bowl and add cold water. Mix thoroughly with a spoon.
3. Spead dough into 2lb loaf tin. Spread evenly, smooth surface and dust with flour.
4. Bake in the middle shelf of the over for 40-45 mins or until the crust is golden brown.
5. Turn out onto a wire tray and allow bread to cool completely before slicing.

When bread has cooled, cut into approx 1/2 inch thick slices. Smother with Irish Butter, some cold thick cut slices of Donnelly Boiling Bacon, some slices of Irish Cheese and then which ever topping you desire – Mustard, relish, sauce… the choice is yours!
