Irish Style Pancakes
Shrove Tuesday, also known as Pancake Day in Ireland, is the day before Ash Wednesday and the start of Lent – ‘Shrove’ stems from old English word ‘shrive’, meaning ‘confess all sins’. It is called Pancake Day because it is the day traditionally for eating pancakes as pancake recipes were a way to use up any stocks of milk, butter and eggs which were forbidden during the abstinence of Lent.
Making pancakes is quick and easy, make sure you make plenty, they are always very popular.
Ingredients:
4oz Odlums Cream Flour
1 Egg
Pinch of Salt
1/2 Pint Milk
Lyles Golden Syrup
Toppings: Sugar, lemon juice, fruit or Irish Jams
Method:
1. Sieve Flour and salt in to a bowl.
2. Make a well and drop in Egg and slowly beat in Milk
3. Allow to stand for a couple of hours before frying.
4. Stir again just before frying
To Fry : On a hot and oiled pan, pour thin coat of batter .
Fry until golden brown on both sides.
Serve rolled up with sugar, lemon juice, or Lyles Golden Syrup on Top.
